Dr. Eric Fretz has been given (and loved) leadership positions since he was 11 years old.  He earned his Eagle Scout award in 1983 and in 2023 he was awarded a National Outstanding Eagle Scout award by NESA for his leadership and service. Dr. Fretz is retired from 24 years of service in the United States Navy with over 30 personal and unit awards, and three combat zone deployments across two wars. He spent the last year of his career in Baghdad serving with the Army leading soldiers in the 18th Airborne Corps.  While in Iraq he convinced over 50 volunteers from US and other forces to follow him on a "semi-authorized" plan to build a Scout camp and Scout troop for Iraqi boys and girls (Victory Base Council) on an Iraqi special forces base near his base, with great success.  He teaches leadership and emotional intelligence to thousands of students as a faculty member at the University of Michigan.  As an international consultant with the William Davidson Institute, he has provided leadership training to NGO leaders on the Syrian border of Turkey and the Polish border of Ukraine.  He is appointed as the GS-15 Director of the Selective Service System in the State of Michigan.  Dr. Fretz leads two charities, two volunteer groups that serve thousands of veterans, and serves on the board of numerous additional charities, almost all with a focus on serving Veterans.  He lives on the Huron River on the outskirts of Ann Arbor, with his wife Dr. Jennifer Fretz and their three grown children.
